From the Principal
Dear Families
We have been celebrating a number of events throughout the term and I would like to thank all our families for supporting the students in their participation.
Interschool
Miss Palmer coordinated a wonderful interschool that was hosted by Balga PS. Our students represented the school in a positive and respectful manner. We had glowing feedback from staff who attended from other schools commenting on how smoothly everything ran, and how much the students enjoyed the day. North Balga won first place with Balga only four points behind in second. Thank you to all the families who attended and supported the event. Also thank you to all the staff and volunteers who assisted in making this a wonderful occasion.
WAM
The students and staff were fortunate to be entertained by representatives from WAM (West Australia Music) in Week 3. The students were a fantastic audience and represented Balga’s values by demonstrating respect to our guests.
New Engagement Space/Playground
The new area is fully operational and the students have been enjoying the opportunity to use their imagination and engage in physical activity.
Kind regards
Mike Wills
Choir Showcase Day
Last Thursday our school choir went to Koondoola Primary School to celebrate a day of music making with the choirs from Koondoola and Hudson Park Primary Schools.
We started off the day with a joint performance of the Music Count Us In Song which was sung all over Australia with over 3,500 schools participating. The rest of the morning was spent rotating through different drumming, dance and drama activities before the students all came together after lunch to sing 6 songs as a massed choir.
Our students have been working hard to learn this program each Thursday during their lunch break. Our choir performed the songs to a high standard and should be very proud of their beautiful behaviour on the day. I had many teachers complimenting the beautiful listening and manners shown by our students!
The whole day was a great success and a wonderful way to celebrate music within our community. All the students also contributed towards this amazing painting which has been donated to Balga Primary School. A big THANK YOU to all involved for this amazing piece of artwork!
Special thanks also to Miss Foote for her help on the day!
Miss Dempsey-Lees.
During week 4 all year 5 students visited Scitech for the day. This is an annual event, with the idea being that all students in the school will get to visit Scitech at least once in their time at the school. It was a jam-packed day full of educational activities!
On our arrival we enjoyed seeing the beautiful painted mural showing Bibbullmun Cosmology. This unique mural was painted by renowned Aboriginal artist Toogarr Morrison with the help of children from Balga Primary School a few years ago.
The planetarium was an excellent way to consolidate some of the learning we did about the solar system last term. Children had an opportunity to look at the Perth night sky and learn about the solar system. The second half of the planetarium show focussed on the linkages between living things on our planet.
This was followed by a fantastic session in the CSIRO lab. Children got an opportunity to be investigators and use microscopes and other lab equipment to try and determine the source of a pollution accident in Perth.
The lab session was followed by some exploration time in the general exhibition. The day was finished off by a very exciting show on energy sources, including some spectacular explosions!
