PRINCIPAL’S UPDATE

Anika Blackmore’s short term contact has been extended for Term 1 of 2020. In order to provide continuity in leadership for the Balga PS community during this important review and planning period it has been decided that I will continue in the role of Principal for Term 1 of next year. This will ensure that I have the capacity to continue to support the staff and school community in setting up staffing and class structures ready for a smooth transition to 2020. I have been enjoying the opportunity to work alongside a very motivated and engaged group of parents, teachers and support staff and I have valued their support and input during my transition to a new school.

Outback Splash
To recognise their efforts and contributions to the school, the Year 6 students will be attending Outback Splash water park on Friday 13 December. This is another fantastic event where the students are able to celebrate their time together in an action packed, fun filled day.  Please have all Consent Forms and payment in by this Friday 6 December.

P&C
I would like to thank our wonderful P&C committee for their diligence and commitment in supporting the students at Balga Primary School. Quite often we don’t see the work that goes on behind the scenes, however, this small group of parents have initiated and organised a number of fundraising events to help fund different projects throughout the school. Unfortunately, a number of the committee members will be leaving us next year due to the Year 6 students moving to high school. The school community would greatly appreciate the addition of new members to ensure the P&C will remain. If you are concerned about time commitments, please speak to any exiting or existing members who can explain the different roles and time commitments.  Without the appropriate numbers, the P&C will not be able to continue.

Kindy Orientation
Thank you to the parents and children who attended the Kindy Orientation. It was a wonderful turn-out and a great opportunity to show-case our amazing Kindy program and Kindy staff. If you have or know of families who have Kindy aged children in 2020, please visit our friendly office staff who can support you in completing an Enrolment Form.

Triple P Positive Parenting Program
Thank you to the community members who attended the Triple P workshop. This is a wonderful program that can support you in managing your children in a number of different situations. The program is evidence based and is endorsed by the Department. To register for a workshop, please visit https://www.triplep-parenting.net.au/au-uken/triple-p/

School dates
The last day for students in 2019 is Thursday 19th December.

The first day for students in 2020 is Monday 3rd February.

Staff
Thank you to all the staff at Balga Primary School who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to support our students.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday!!

Mr Mike Wills

DEPUTY’S DESK

Book Awards and End of Year Assembly: 12 December at 9am
Join us for our end of year celebrations where we present our special book awards and each class performs a song.

Graduation: Monday 16 December at 9am
This is a special and significant time for our Year 6 students who will be graduating from primary school at the conclusion of the year. Family and friends of the graduating students are invited to attend the Graduation Ceremony to mark this wonderful occasion which will be held at 9am in the New Assembly Area.  Following the ceremony, the students and two guests are invited to a morning tea organised by the P&C. Please note that due to catering and space restrictions, only the two guests can attend the morning tea with their child.

I wish all our graduating students and their families the best of luck as they journey onto their new adventure.  Thank you to the P&C committee members for making this occasion even more special.

Swimming Lessons
Thank you to all the students for their enthusiasm towards swimming lessons, and to those parents who got their children ready for swimming each day. Our participation rate was high and the children learnt many invaluable water safety skills. A special thank you to Balga Primary staff for supervising our students each day and making sure everyone was safe.

Mr Anthony Chiappalone

Rooms 4 & 8

Rooms 4 and 8 participated in a milkshake tasting integrated activity. The students tasted 7 different mixtures of milkshakes and voted on their favourite ones. The chocolate slams and choc-mint were fan favourites! We tied this into our literacy block and wrote a procedure for ‘How to make a milkshake’. It was a highly engaging and delicious experience for all.

Iron Man

We are very proud to announce that our very own sports teacher, Miss Palmer, completed her first Half Iron Man Competition on Sunday. She powered through a 1.9km swim, 90km ride and 21.1km run. She smashed it out in 6hrs 19 minutes. Well done Miss Palmer! You’re an inspiration!

2020 SCHOOL ENROLMENTS

We are now busy planning for our classes and Teaching Staff for 2020.

If you are currently enrolled at Balga Primary School and know that you will not be returning next year, it would be appreciated if you could let the school know.  Either advise your child’s classroom teacher, the front office or send an SMS to 0438 958 412 stating <Child’s name> / <Room Number> / <No>

If you are aware of any families that may be moving into the area next year and may be looking to enrol their children at Balga Primary School, it would be appreciated if you could ask them to contact us to register their interest for enrolment.

Please refer to our 2020 Term 1 Planner regularly for updates on what’s happening at Balga Primary School.
